We sanded down the existing hardwood to eliminate the scratches and minimize the dents (can't always get out every dent because sanding down too far will really harm the integrity of the hardwood floor and you could lose the ability to sand it down and refinish again in the future!). We then applied a nutmeg stain and 3 coats of a high quality oil base finish. We think it came out great!
